Another Guardian Lost! Our Thoughts and Prayers are with our Brothers and Sisters of the Clinton, MO Police Department

Police Officer Gary Michael was shot and killed during a traffic stop of a suspicious vehicle in the area of East Green Street and North 2nd Street at approximately 10:45 pm.

The driver exited the vehicle and opened fire on Officer Michael during the stop. Despite being mortally wounded, Officer Michael was able to return fire but it is not known if the subject was shot. The man fled the scene in the vehicle, which he abandoned several blocks away. The subject remains at large.

Officer Michael had served with the Clinton Police Department for less than one year.
